Our Big Win at the GP Awards 2018

SDSmyhealthcare Wins Top Award for Innovative Diabetes Community Clinic

Did you hear that our Federation won an award at the prestigious General Practice Awards 2018? In the hotly-contested Diabetes Care category, our innovative Diabetes Community Clinics came out ahead of a strong field.

The Diabetes Community Clinics are a joint project between us and Birmingham Community Healthcare (BCHC), and is supported by Birmingham and Solihull CCG. The service is led by our Transformation Director, Mr Mani Dhesi. Mani said:

“We’re delighted to win this award, which is a tribute to the hard work of everyone involved. This includes both our team at SDSmyhealthcare, and the specialist diabetes clinicians at BCHC. I’d also like to thank Birmingham and Solihull CCG for their ongoing support and encouragement. After being piloted at one of our SDSmyhealthcare Hubs with excellent results, the service was rolled out successfully to four more Hubs. We’re now in close discussions to expand the service even further in 2019.”

Nirmal Vora, our CEO, said:

“Our Federation members agreed that to give their patients the best diabetes care, it made sense to make consultants and specialist nurses part of their practice teams. Our virtual clinics utilise the best specialist diabetes skills across the community, and provide the patients’ GPs with clear action plans and treatment recommendations. We hold five virtual clinics each month, which means GPs can access specialist knowledge for their patients more quickly and easily than ever before.”

Now in their tenth year, the General Practice Awards are the most celebrated awards for primary care professionals. The Awards highlight and showcase the best examples of hard work, innovation and dedication in primary care, along with the support offered by suppliers and service providers. Over 500 healthcare and industry professionals attended this year’s black tie event, which was held at the Park Plaza in Westminster.

The Diabetes Care award seeks to recognise an individual or team who have demonstrated excellence when working with patients with diabetes or pre-diabetes, helping to improve their lives and their symptom management. The category was judged by a high-level panel of diabetes experts, including leading consultants and a Specialist Registrar and Clinical Fellow from the University of Oxford.
